Lesson 200 – Pride

* Exodus 10:3-4
The Lord brought plagues on Egypt because of Pharos’s pride. An entire nation was plagued for the sin of this one man. The same could happen to a church if the Pastor or Elder does not heed God’s warning to be humble.
* 2 Chronicles 23:33-34
There are two important points here. First, by not humbling yourself, you multiply your guilt. You then have your sin compounded with interest. Secondly, God’s protection was removed and the prideful King was killed.

Why Does God Humble Us?
* Deuteronomy 8:2-3>> The Lord Humbles us to Test Us, to Know What is in Our Hearts, and to see if we will keep His Commandments. He also humbles us to discipline us (v.5)
* Psalm 107:10-16>> The Lord Humbles us to SAVE us.

What are the Advantages of Humbling Ourselves?
* Answered prayer: 2 Chronicles 7:13-14; 33:12–13; Ezra 8:21; Psalm 10:17; Daniel 10:12
* Exaltation by God: Job 5:11; Matthew 23:12; Luke 1:52; James 4:10 
* Salvation: Job 22:29; Psalm 76:9; 1 Corinthian 1:26–29 
* Honor: Proverbs 15:33
* God’s attention: Is 66:2
* One’s Walk with God: Micah 6:8 
* Kingdom greatness: Mt 18:4 
* Service to the Lord: Ac 20:19 

People that were Prideful and the Consequences
* Adam & Eve: Genesis 3 – All of the world was cursed with sin. 
* Pharaoh: Ex 7:8–11:10; 14:3–9 - He and his people were plagued and his army was destroyed.
* Goliath: 1 Sa 17:1–11 – He was killed by a little runt boy with a pebble and beheaded.
* David: 1 Ch 21:1–14 – 70,000 people in Israel died from a plague.
* Hezekiah: 2 Ki 20:12–18 - All of the possessions, people and children of Hezekiah would be carried off by Babylon.
* Lucifer: Isaiah 14 – Once the most powerful and beautiful angel, the sin or pride caused him to be cast out of heaven and have an eternal destination into the Lake of Fire.
* Herod Agrippa I: Ac 12:21–23 – He was eaten by worms and died.

*pride of power: Le 26:19
*pride of knowledge: Job 12:1–2; 1 Co 8:1 
*pride of the days of human life: Ps 90:10
*proud in heart: Pr 16:5; 21:4; Je 49:16; Da 5:20 
*pride of self-accomplishment: Is 10:12–14; 1 Co 4:7 
*national pride: Is 16:6; Je 48:29; 49:4, 16; Zep 3:11 
*pride of ancestry: Lu 3:8; Jn 8:33 
*pride in comparing oneself to others: Lu 18:10–12 
*pride in appearance: 2 Co 5:12 
*boastful pride of life: 1 Jo 2:16

Causes of Pride:
*satisfaction in prosperity: De 8:12–14; Hos 13:6 
*dependence on human power: De 8:17–18 
*glory of military victory: 2 Ki 14:10 
*drunkenness: Is 28:3 
*toleration of evil: 1 Co 5:1–2, 6 
*knowledge without love: 1 Co 8:1 
*unqualified person in a leadership position: 1 Ti 3:6 
*trust in uncertain riches: 1 Ti 6:17
